The Dog Ate My Headphones!

What Headphones Can Be Repaired?  We accept any brands, makes, or models, and they do not need to have been purchased from HeadRoom. Unfortunately we are not able to repair all headphones, for example if the dog ate your headphones ;-) or if the driver is blown, we will be unable to repair your headphones. The troubleshooting guide below will get you started, but you will need to contact us before sending in your headphones so we can confirm the problem and know to when to expect the headphones to our facility.

Costs & Repair Times: Please contact us by email at headphonerepairs@headphone.com or call us at 1-800-828-8184.  We can then provide out best estimate for repairs.  Repair price can vary depending on the model or what type of repairs are required.  However most repairs can be done for our standard $75 fee which includes return shipping costs within the US.  Please provide the model number and possible photos would be very helpful in determining the repair costs.  Turn around time is usually 1-2 weeks, but it could take up to  3-4 weeks with shipping time. Expedited shipping is available at an extra cost.

Troubleshooting:

Headphone Jack problems. If your headphone jack is broken, bent, or otherwise damaged, good news. Chances are we can repair it for you.

Cable problems.  If the headphone cable has pulled out from the headphone or jack, is frayed, cut, broken, cracked or otherwise damaged, we can probably repair this as well.

Internal problems. Some indicators that the problem is somewhere inside the headphone earcup or driver are: sound coming out of only one side, or neither; sound is distorted, quiet, or otherwise inaccurate. These problems may indicate a headphone that cannot be repaired, however they also could indicate a simple cable problem.  Contact us for help.

Physical damage.  If the headband, hinge, or another part of your headphone is physically broken, chances are we won't be able to repair this.  Unfortunately we do not have many headphone parts available for all the different headphone manufacturers.

Other Problems. Contact us and we will help you troubleshoot the issue.

How Do I Get Re-cabled Headphones?

For all brands requiring a 'custom' recable job, you may either purchase a brand-new set of recabled headphones direct from HeadRoom, OR you may send in your existing headphones to our facility to be recabled with HeadRoom Canare cable.

The basic cost can vary depending on cable type, length, and desired connector.  Please contact us for a quote.

Shorter cord lengths will be slightly less; longer cord lengths will be slightly more. HeadRoom uses superb Neutrik connectors and Cardas quad eutectic solder on all our work. Please call our HeadRoom Sales Dept at 800-828-8184 for an exact price quote and estimated ETA on your headphone recable work.

What Type of Headphone Cable Does HeadRoom Use? HeadRoom exclusively employs  high quality Canare cable that is made in Japan for all our in-house recabling jobs. Canare cable is solid, well built, and clean sounding that won't break the bank for a great upgrade option.

Some headphones can be recabled for balanced operation using the stock factory cable. We currently offer the Sennheiser HD800 and Beyerdynamic T1 with basic balanced plug re-termination on those headphones' uncommonly excellent stock factory cord.

How Long Does it Take for HeadRoom to Recable My Headphones? While most headphone recable jobs are performed in 2 weeks, it could take up to 4~5 weeks to receive your upgraded recabled headphones back on your doorstep depending solely on the type of headphone, the actual headphone cabling re-work required at HeadRoom and the availability of cabling and/or needed parts. We'll provide you with an accurate lead time upon placing your order.

Once I have my headphones recabled to balanced drive, can I still listen to them in single-ended mode? Yes. For those headphones that have a custom recable hard-wired into place, you will need a XLR balanced-to-single-ended adapter for this specific purpose — the HeadRoom XLR-1/4″ accessory.

Warranty. The upgraded Canare cable features a Lifetime HeadRoom Warranty on the cable as well as our installation work. The headphone manufacturer's original headphone warranty is not affected by having your headphones upgraded (note: the headphone warranty starts from the actual purchase date of the headphones). Any HeadRoom warranty issues or questions should be directed to service@headphone.com
